The Guilds Child Abuse Prevention & Treatment Endowment - $5 Million Fundraising Pledge

The Guilds have pledged to raise a total of $5 Million towards The Guilds Child Abuse Prevention & Treatment Endowment at Children's Hospital. This pledge is the largest single pledge to Children's.

There are over 3 million referrals to CPS every year in the United States, accounting for 6 million children. That’s just what’s reported – imagine how many cases never reach an agency. On any given day, 3 to 5 percent of Children’s inpatient population is here because of abuse or neglect. In 2011, 37% of children under the age of one entering our trauma program were non-accidental trauma, child abuse.  For ages 1-4 year olds, 8% were for non-accidental trauma, child abuse.

The Guilds Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Center addresses abuse in a different way. The center currently operates a full time clinic and sees follow-up patients and outside referrals.  Staff are trained in both the physical and psycho-social aspects of child abuse. Their focus is specifically on elements of abuse, neglect and endangerment – not completely on injury treatment.

The Guilds Child Abuse Prevention & Treatment Center Mission Statement:
Will provide comprehensive services to children and their families through a multidisciplinary, child-friendly program, to meet the physical and emotional needs of children who are suspected of being abused or neglected. The Center will provide expert diagnostic/forensic evaluations, therapeutic evaluations and treatment services.

The Center's goal in protecting children from harm is by providing education, assessment and outreach to assist in supporting a safe and secure environment.

The Guilds Child Abuse Prevention & Treatment Center Vision:
Will be the premiere provider in Central California for diagnostic physical abuse assessments, foster care medical clearance examinations and pediatric sexual assault cases.  The Center will be recognized in the Central Valley and State as a leader in advocacy, injury prevention, clinical research and academic training.

The Guilds Child Abuse Prevention & Treatment Center:

• Treats 40-50 patients at the medical clinic, and 8-10 inpatient cases each month.
• Identifies and treats physical and sexual abuse, neglect, endangerment and all other forms of maltreatment.
• Promotes prevention through education and outreach.
• Works with Child Protective Services, law enforcement, public health agencies and community organizations.

• A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds in the United States.
• Over 3 million referrals to CPS every year in the United States, accounting for 6 million children.
• Babies from birth to 1 year of age suffer the highest rate of child abuse.
• Abused children under the age of 4 account for more than three out of four deaths.
